March Transitions

Writer's picture: Rachel ParrentRachel Parrent

Hello again and happy March! We had a really, really fun February with you at the studio!! Between ridiculously hot rooms, frozen pipes, front desk duty, coffee bars, crazy weather, subs galore, saying goodbye to old friends and teachers and classes and then hello to all the new ones – we truly felt like we saw it all! Maybe you did not get to see any of that, and that’s okay too. But at least for us, it felt like we grew closer to you through it all.

Just like in your yoga practice, as you move from one pose into the next, the transitions really do matter. Sometimes you gracefully and easily pop right into Warrior 3 from a Crescent Lunge with confidence and ease and fluidity and strength. But we find, more often than not, that sometimes – like when leg day was yesterday, or you did not sleep enough or very well, or you are nursing that old injury, or that wine from last night has you feeling imbalanced, or your mind just heads elsewhere because life is so, so hard – the transitions are not always perfect. We know that we are not making every single “right” decision. We are okay with that. Just like in our practice, we know that in our shakiness and falling out, we will eventually find growth and change and strength that we never knew existed. There have been multiple times this month – sometimes amid super stressful decisions and situations – where we have literally just stopped in our tracks feeling so very humbled and grateful for you trusting us and allowing us to carry this new mantle. Every one of our teachers and every one of our students continues to show up daily and grant us the most grace, patience, understanding, space, time, hugs, conversations, and lots and lots of love. Thank you for not expecting perfection but allowing our transition to be wobbly and our poses to be unsteady. It is because of you that have so much continued determination and hope for the future of Sanara.

We were so encouraged and empowered this week by a new student who just walked through our door on Monday night about 30 minutes before classes started. We both happened to be there, finishing out the duties of the day, and we are so glad that we were. He told us a story of health issues that require a good sweat every now and then – but also of feeling displaced in his yoga practice. He had previously tried multiple studios in the area (virtual, lowest price, closest to home, etc.) when he finally came to Sanara in desperation after a day at work and a frustrating commute, just looking for a place to ultimately land. His story resonated so deeply with us – because a couple of years ago, we too found ourselves displaced from a gym/yoga studio that we had called home for a long time. We were both there six days a week and it is where Rachel was first introduced to the extraordinary and healing benefits of daily yoga practice. Nothing from that season made any sense at all and there were so many times that we wondered if we would ever feel at home again. Thankfully, God had a much bigger plan than where we were that felt so comfortable and safe. He has been so gentle and precious to bring us into this new home where we can now share our testimony of His faithfulness in our marriage and in our lives and help others to heal too.

If you are in a hard transition (that really, really matters) or you are feeling displaced in some way – may this letter remind you of our beautiful community here that awaits you with open arms in every season. You do not have to show up here and be put together or appear put together. Please come wobbly and unsure and unstable so that we can come alongside you and be a partner in your journey. Every single time you show up on your mat – you are seen, known and loved – may you truly feel that way every time that you walk out our door.

Best,Jason & Rachel
